Chengdu Mixed Use Development

Chengdu, China
The Chengdu Mixed Use Development was influenced by the natural landscape, culture, lifestyle, and climate of Sichuan province. The key objectives were to provide a unique lifestyle for residents and hotel guests, together with a flexible commercial and retail solution.

The architectural vision for this development was inspired by one of the great natural and man-made landmarks in Chengdu: Mount Qingcheng and the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.

A retail podium steps down from the north of the site towards a large park to the south. The lower three floors form stepped terraces which provide connections across the site. Outward facing retail and dining functions face these terraces and provide opportunities for outdoor dining terraces, facing the central park. On the fourth and fifth floors, functions become more pavilion like natural land formations emerging from the stepped planes below. These pavilions contain larger scale dining and entertainment functions with strong branding potential overlooking the park.

Above the stepped terraces and pavilions sit the four office towers. These towers rise like the mountain peaks of Qingcheng Mountain to capture and protect the topography below.
