10 Design Wins Competition to Design Zhuhai Civil Service Centre

10 Design in collaboration with a local architecture firm, BIAD Urban Design, has won the competition for the Zhuhai Civil Service Centre in China. Leonard Milford, Design Partner of 10 Design comments: “Our design for this landmark civic project was developed against a fierce field of international practices. 10 Design is honoured and delighted that our scheme and ideas have led to this commission.”

Located at the periphery of the city in the Xin Xiang Zhou district of Zhuhai, the design team has defined the service centre as an interface for the surrounding context. Instead of creating a new tower on the already competing skyline, the team opted for a low rise approach with an integrated composition to connect the varying context of culture, leisure, and workplace. By introducing a naturally lit central public street, we are aiming to promote a place for community engagement and a meeting point for the district as opposed to a mono-programmatic high rise ‘icon’.
