Galaxy Moonbay Renaissance Hotel and Mixed Use Development

This project is a hotel and mixed use development located in a new leisure centre in the Yangtze River Delta region in Changzhou, China. The site is in West Tai Lake's ecological and leisure area. The brief was to create a garden environment and to increase public accessibility to the lake. The development comprises leisure and commercial community, an iconic luxury hotel, serviced apartments, conference centres, offices, and public spaces.
The masterplan design was inspired by the local craft of bamboo carving. The landscape design forms the foundation of the overall planning and layout of the masterplan. A mixture of public spaces including parks, plazas, an amphitheatre, and playgrounds are designed to support a variety of uses. The nature of the landscape areas allows the site to integrate seamlessly with the existing lake-side promenade to the east of the site.

Careful consideration was paid to zoning and specific building arrangement within the site to maximise views and ventilation to all buildings, while at the same time maintaining the existing important sight lines and breeze corridors. Leisure facilities are designed on podium rooftops raised from the undulating landscape, while spaces are carved into the high-rise towers to form sky gardens for residents. The hotel is located towards the east with maximum panoramic views to the lake. The form of the hotel sweeps down into the garden to create a conference facility within a public park in the centre of the site. The buildings are curved to reflect the fluidity of the lake.
